The 10-Step Accident Checklist

1. Get medical attention the same day. Even if you feel fine. Adrenaline masks injuries, and a same-day record is the anchor of your claim.
2. Photograph everything. Vehicles, positions, damage, the road surface, weather, your visible injuries. More is better.
3. Collect witness names and numbers. Witnesses disappear in minutes and are nearly impossible to find later.
4. Report the accident. To the police where required and to your own insurer, factually and briefly.
5. Do not give a recorded statement. You are not required to give one to the other side's insurer. Get advice first.
6. Do not sign anything or accept any offer. Early offers close your claim permanently, before you know your injuries.
7. Start a claim folder today. Every receipt, prescription, appointment, and kilometre travelled for treatment.
8. Stay off social media. Insurers monitor it and will use anything out of context.
9. Note how the injury changes your day. Sleep, work, chores, mood, hobbies. A simple journal is powerful evidence.
